Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin has signed a law that would allow Oklahoma farmers to grow industrialized hemp into legislation.
House Bill 2913 was signed by the governor on Tuesday, and allows universities or farmers contracting with universities, to harvest certified hemp crops to be used for research and development for industrial purposes.
Sen. Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, an author of the bill said, “This will help diversify our state’s struggling economy and will provide a tremendous boost to the agriculture industry. This new industry will potentially create thousands of jobs and put hundreds of millions of dollars a year into our economy. “
Oklahoma is now a part of nearly 40 other states to have industrialized hemp programs.
