A child is dead after being found, unresponsive Friday evening inside a vehicle parked at a Luther daycare center.
The child was found inside a vehicle parked at the Apple Creek Learning Center, located in the 800 block of S. Birch St. in Luther, authorities said.
Investigators think the grandmother left the child in her vehicle throughout the day while she was at work in Oklahoma City.
She went to the daycare Friday evening in an attempt to pick up the child as she thought she had dropped off the child earlier in the day, Oklahoma County sheriff's office spokesman Mark Opgrande said.
The Oklahoma County sheriff's office is investigating the death. No names were released as of Friday night.
Though the death is being investigated, Opgrande said the death appears to be accidental at this time.
The Oklahoma County district attorney's office will determine if any charges will be filed after the sheriff's office completes a thorough investigation, Opgrande said.
This is the first hot car death of a child this year for the sheriff's office, he said.
