Attempted Armed Robbery Puts Moore Schools On Lockdown

An attempted armed robbery put multiple Moore schools on lockdown Monday morning.

Police said the attempted robbery happened in the parking lot of Sammy's Liquor Store near SE 4 and Eastern Ave. 

The owner told News 9 a friend of his showed up at his store just after 9 a.m. Monday, and that's when a man with a knife approached him at the parking lot. The friend ran inside the store and the man with a knife took off running.

Within minutes of getting the call, police and Moore schools locked down four of the nearby schools; Moore High School, Highland East Junior High, Apple Creek and Vista Academy. 

Police said the schools were only on lockdown for about 45 minutes as a precaution while police searched for the suspect in the nearby neighborhoods. 

"It was a white male, appeared to have a scruffy type beard - unshaven look," said Moore police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis. "Looks like in his early 20's."

Police told News 9 they did recover surveillance video from the Arvest Bank next door and other businesses showing the suspect taking off the gray hoodie he was wearing and running eastbound from the liquor store.
