The Otoe-Missouria Tribe has issued a notice for all residents to boil their water if they receive water from the Otoe-Missouria Tribe Public Water Supply.
Water samples from September showed high turbidity levels in the drinking water and inadequate water treatment.
The tribe is asking for all customers to boil their water before drinking. They ask customers to bring the water to a full, rolling boil for one minute before drinking, preparing food, making baby formula, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing infants who may drink bath water, or for cleaning open wounds.
Turbidity can allow a medium microbial growth which may indicate the presence of disease causing organisms such as bacteria, viruses and parasites.
The tribe said they received dirty water after Kaw Lake opened up flood gates and the water treatment plant could not keep up with the additional water. The Department of Environmental Quality is working with the tribe to resolve the problem.
The Otoe-Missouria Tribe is headquartered in Red Rock in north, central Oklahoma.
For more information, call the water plant at (580) 723-4273.
