Parking Rate Could Increase At Will Rogers World Airport

You could soon be paying more to park at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. 

The Oklahoma City Airport Trust adopted a resolution to adjust the rates of all parking facilities at Will Rogers World Airport (WRWA.) It's now up to the City Council to approve the increase.

The daily rates would increase by $1 for all surface lots and $2 for the five-story parking garages.  The change would be effective this November 1, 2016.

“Our goal is to provide a better parking experience for our customers,” says Mark Kranenburg, Airports Director.  “The new revenue will assist in funding new parking facilities, improved technology and additional services that ultimately benefit everyone who parks with us.”

The rate increase is necessary to fund numerous improvement projects currently underway and the future expansion of parking facilities, airport officials said. 

Four of those projects are currently underway:

1. A new parking and revenue control system that will include “pay-on-foot” kiosks and the installation of space locaters in the five story parking garages
2. New wayfinding signage in all of the parking garages
3. Renovations and upgrades to the elevator station in the two-story parking garage
4. Repairs and rehabilitation to the two-story parking garage

The cost for these projects is approximately $7.8 million.  Additionally, design will soon get underway for a new 1,750 space surface parking lot.  The new surface lot will provide additional long-term parking capacity, a larger cell phone waiting area and will facilitate the future construction of an additional parking garage. The cost for the surface lot project is estimated to be $6.7 million.
