3.2 Magnitude Quake Recorded Near Pawnee

Another 3-point temblor rattled residents near the town of Pawnee, Okla., Friday afternoon.

The 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:31 p.m., eight miles west of Pawnee, or about 65 miles north northeast of the Oklahoma City metro area, at a depth of about five and a half miles.

Just this weekend, the state’s largest ever earthquake, a 5.8 magnitude, was recorded in the area.

Around 5:51 Friday evening, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded two miles west, southwest of Yale, Oklahoma. In relation to the metro, it was about 60 miles away. It was about two and a half miles deep.

There has been no reports of damage or injuries associated with either of Friday’s earthquakes.  

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely with quakes at magnitudes of 4.0 and greater.
