Chickasha Pharmacy Worker Arrested, Accused Of Pill Theft

According to court documents, a Chickasha pharmacy is out thousands of prescription pills and a longtime technician told police she had been stealing and selling them.

Chickasha police said they began their investigation after the pharmacy reported a shortage of 3,300 tablets of a drug called Buprenorphine, which experts said is a narcotic.

Court documents said 37-year-old Chantel Carroll had been working at the CVS on South 4th Street in Chickasha as a pharmacy technician for eight years.

The probable cause affidavit said when Carroll was confronted by a manager, she said she had been stealing the drugs. She went on to say she had been changing the quantity of Buprenorphine when she ordered more over the last year.

Experts said that substance could be used to treat a drug dependence or sometimes a substitute for pain relief.

Carroll told investigators she would typically take three bottles of 30 per month, carrying them to a part of the store she thought cameras couldn't see her, and would then conceal them in her cleavage or the waistband of her pants, the affidavit said.

After taking them away from the store, she allegedly sold them to someone for $300 per bottle.

Carroll also admitted to stealing 100 Alprazolam pills for her own consumption "to calm her nerves due to the situation."

CVS said the store is out nearly $6,000 after this incident. Carroll no longer works for the company, a representative said.

Records show she bonded out after one night in jail.

According to online court records, she faces one felony count of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance, a crime punishable by 10 years in prison.

Her next court date is August 25.
