Dodgers Collect Third Straight Win Behind Puig's Four RBI's

Yasiel Puig finished a double shy of the cycle as the OKC Dodgers scored eight runs over two innings and picked up an 8-4 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas. It was the third straight win for the Dodgers as they opened a four-game home stand against El Paso. 

In his debut at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, Yasiel Puig went 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple, home run, two runs scored and four RBI.

Oklahoma City’s (66-52) offense broke through in the third inning, as the Dodgers racked up three runs and four hits in the frame in front of a sellout crowd of 9,528.

Alex Hassan led off with a single. Later with two outs, Puig hit a RBI triple to right field to score Hassan and give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Austin Barnes followed with a RBI single before O’Koyea Dickson doubled to center field to bring home Barnes for a 3-0 Dodgers advantage.

In the fourth inning, Dodgers starting pitcher Jose De Leon hit a sacrifice bunt to bring home a run and reached on a fielding error by El Paso pitcher Daniel McCutchen. Micah Johnson added a RBI single for a 5-0 Oklahoma City lead.

Puig then hit a three-run homer that landed just to the right of center field to push the Dodgers in front, 8-0, in the fourth inning. The home run was his second through his first four games with Oklahoma City.

Puig started the night 3-for-3, but grounded out in his final two at-bats to finish a double shy of the cycle. He collected four RBI in a game for the first time since he racked up five RBI with the Los Angeles Dodgers Aug. 11, 2015 against Washington.

The Chihuahuas (65-55) broke through in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Austin Hedges. Hector Sanchez followed with a RBI double into right field to cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 8-2.

The El Paso runs ended the Dodgers’ streak of 25 straight scoreless innings after Oklahoma City HAD pitched back-to-back shutout wins in Des Moines against the Iowa Cubs.

The Chihuahuas scored twice more in the top of the ninth inning. Jose Rondon hit a sacrifice fly and then with two outs, Diego Goris scored from third base on a passed ball by Oklahoma City catcher Austin Barnes to cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 8-4.

Dodgers pitcher De Leon (5-1) held the Chihuahuas to two runs and five hits over 7.0 innings with one walk and seven strikeouts in the win.

El Paso starting pitcher McCutchen (9-9) allowed eight runs (seven earned) and nine hits over 5.0 innings with three walks and seven strikeouts in a loss.

The series between the Chihuahuas and Dodgers continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The first 2,000 fans to the ballpark will receive a 2016 OKC Dodgers team poster. Gates open at 6 p.m.
