The family and friends of a late elementary school teacher are trying to raise money for kids she inspired every day.

Betty McMartin was beginning what would have been her 22nd year as a school teacher when she died Monday due to a heart complication.

“She gave her heart until the end,” said McMartin’s husband Roy Hale.

Hale was teaching 2nd grade at Cesar Chavez Elementary in southeast Oklahoma City.

“She loved teaching,” said McMartin’s son Austin Reilley.

“She dedicated all of her outside time and professional time to taking care of her children in every possible way,” said McMartin’s good friend and fellow teacher John Duhon.

McMartin's husband, son and friend hope McMartin’s years of service as a teacher will inspire people to donate to a GoFundMe page.

The money raised will be given to Cesar Chavez Elementary in McMartin’s memory and help the students she loved.
