A man whose remains were found near Canton, Oklahoma, has been identified as a suspect wanted in the murder of an 18-year-old woman.
On June 13, a farmer spraying his field near Canton found a human skull and called the Blaine County Sheriff’s office. Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations’ special agents went to the scene and with the help of deputies and others searching the area, more remains were discovered.
According to the OSBI, the Medical Examiner’s office has identified the remains as those of 23-year-old Christopher Blake Scruggs.
Agents said Scruggs is a suspect in a homicide near Canton in 2015. Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies have been searching for him since the homicide.
A murder warrant was issued for Scruggs in the homicide of Caylee Massey. On October 27, 2015, 18-year-old Massey was riding in a truck headed to Canton from Oklahoma City when she was shot in the head. The driver of the truck pulled to the side of the road and Scruggs, a passenger in the truck, fled the scene.
The medical examiner says it could take several months to determine a cause/manner of death for Scruggs.
OSBI special agents continue to investigate Massey’s murder.
