Buddy Hield may need to get a room for all the trophies he’s been piling up, because the OU superstar added another award to his collection as he was named the 2016 Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year on Sunday morning.

Hield receives this award fresh off leading his Sooners to a 29-8 record and a Final Four appearance for the first time since 2002.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club’s national voting academy decides who wins the award, and voters are made up of various leading journalists, current and former head coaches along with former winners and conference commissioners.

Hield beat out Virginia’s Malcom Brogdon, Kentucky’s Tyler Ulis and Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine for the award.

“In an era when basketball is saturated with incredible talent, Buddy Hield found a way to stand out,” said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. “His leadership and accomplishments have profoundly impacted both his team and the college game as a whole.”

Hield averaged 25 points per game and 5.7 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent from the field and 45.7 percent from behind the arc. The senior grasped the attention of the college basketball world with his lethal scoring ability to go with his humble personality.

Other notable Naismith Trophy winners have included Larry Bird (Indiana State University), Michael Jordan (UNC) and David Robinson (Navy).
