Crescent Residents Upset About Police Response Times

Several residents in Crescent in Logan County say recent police response times have been unacceptable.

Residents told News 9 it can take up to half an hour to get a police officer to respond to a call. They say the lack of a police presence has resulted in an increase in break-ins. They claim the police department recently hasn’t even had an officer on duty between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. 

Jon Owens took over as Crescent Police Chief on March 1.  He said break-ins are not up, and there is at least one officer on duty between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. every day. 

However, Crescent Resident Marcia Jones doesn’t believe him.

“Not all the time are they covered at night,” said Jones. “It’s very disturbing because there’s times when we do need police assistance at night, and when you call, and you are told an officer is on the way…our town is not very big.  And nobody shows up, and you have to wait 45 minutes for a Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy to show up.”

Jones and other residents said the new police chief doesn’t live in Crescent. But Chief Owens, who’s a former Okemah Police Officer, told News 9 he’s in the process of buying a home in Crescent.
