One person is dead after a shooting Friday night at an Edmond apartment complex, Edmond police said.
Shortly before 10 p.m., 17-year-old Carlos Santos went to a hospital in Edmond with a gunshot wound in his head. Santos was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he died early Saturday.
Investigators said the shooting happened at the parking lot of Oxford Oaks Apartments, 1920 E 2nd Street.
Santos and two friends, Jessey Gonzalez and Nicolas Gedela, both 18, were trying to sell a quarter pound of marijuana to three unknown people for $850, police said.
During the transaction, one of the unknown people shot at the vehicle driven by Gonzalez.
Santos' family members gathered Saturday to remember the teen.
They said he had problems with drugs in the past, but was trying to turn his life around after a car accident a few weeks ago left him with several broken ribs. He also lost an eye in the crash.
“He wanted to like stop the bad path he was taking," Santos’ niece Esteefania Medina said. “He wanted to change. Like, (he) wanted a career. Wanted his family to be proud of him.”
But, the family said, what Santos didn't realize was they already were.
“Yeah, I was always proud of him,” Medina said. “I always had his back and everything and he always had mine.”
Edmond police say they do not have a description of the shooter.
Gonzalez was arrested on complaints of murder, unlawful distribution of marijuana and possession of drug proceed money. Gedela was arrested on complaints of murder and unlawful distribution of marijuana.
Both were taken to the Oklahoma County jail.
So far, no other arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions have been released.
