Two months after a massive ice storm paralyzed the metro area, debris cleanup crews Tuesday began “Round Two.”
The Thanksgiving Day nightmare coated about 450 of Oklahoma City’s 620 square miles with varying amounts of ice. City Utilities Spokesperson Debbie Ragan says private contractors have already collected 60,000 tons of debris related to the storm.
Workers Tuesday began going back over areas a second time picking up debris, starting in the area of NW 48th St. and May.
“So if you’ve got more storm debris to set out, this is the time to do it,” said Ragan. “They’ve collected so much already, maybe a second pass will take less time.”
Ragan says the city has applied for FEMA aid to pay for the cleanup. An updated debris removal progress map is available at www.okc.gov
