The renter told police he didn't know either person at the door and had difficulty seeing them. The two suspects are only described as two black men.
“After a few moments, he heard kicking and that's when both suspects entered into the residence,” Peter said.
The man inside the apartment reached for his gun the fired several shots at the men outside his door killing one of the two suspects. Bullet holes now pepper the outside of his neighbor's home.
“The other suspect is still outstanding, he did flee on foot. We don't have any suspect description at this time,” Peters said.
Crime scene tape blocked off the back parking lot of the complex for nearly four hours as investigators combed through the crime scene.
Among the many things police are working to piece together is whether or not the two intruders were armed at the time.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
