A Shawnee family overwhelmed with transportation burdens got an unexpected gift Friday afternoon at OU Children’s Hospital.

Mike and Lisa Jessup are the parents of 4-month-old Jacob Jessup. Jacob was born with a serious heart condition that keeps him at OU Children’s.

The couple alternates driving from Shawnee to the hospital every day. However, the 15-year-old SUV they have owned has broken down several times.

Friday afternoon, Dale Smicklas from AutoMax Dodge in Shawnee surprised the Jessup’s with a newer modeled Dodge Caravan, free of charge. Smicklas said he heard about the Jessup’s story and was moved to act.

Mike Jessup said prayers have been answered. “This is amazing; it’s a God send to us. We just never dreamed about it.”

Smicklas didn’t do the good deed to garner attention, News 9 learned about what was going to happen from a third party.
