Kicked out of your home solely based on sexual orientation or gender identity -- that could soon be prevented from happening in Oklahoma City if passed Tuesday by City Council.
This protection is a part of what Norman has already done. Oklahoma City is one of eight out of the 30 most populated cities in the U.S. that does not have full LGBTQ protections. The city does protect against discrimination of gay city employees, just not transgender.
Tuesday's vote comes as an amendment attached to new language in an ordinance the city must pass to continue receiving housing grants from HUD.
What this amendment will state -- No person can refuse to sell, lease or rent any housing or real estate, refuse to negotiate and or solicit or induce any person based on sexual orientation or gender.
If passed, it will be a major step in the minds of activists.
"It's the first leg in a long run of protections we're going to be fighting for in Oklahoma City. We believe that this year we'll get more protections much like we have now in Norman," said Troy Stevenson with Freedom Oklahoma.
The city will vote on the amendment at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
