I want to talk to the sports lovers for a moment, men and women, who have competed themselves, parented an athlete or simply love to watch the competition. Those people who know first-hand that sports in Jr. High and High School develops character, a sense of accountability, teamwork, community.
You have an opportunity to be a part of something special, motivating Oklahoma City public school students to get involved in athletics. And to return school pride to the once very proud athletic traditions at Northwest Classen, John Marshal, Capitol Hill and all the others.
Consider a Christmas gift to the Fields and Futures Foundation.
It started with Tim and Liz McLaughlin. Their kids don't even go to Oklahoma City schools, but they were stunned by the rundown condition of the athletic fields in the district. They have committed to completely renovating 44 fields in the district -- turf, fences, dugouts, sprinkler systems.
So far, they have helped renovate four schools. Now, students are returning to athletics, to be a part of a team, a family committed to a common goal.
It's working, and it's changing schools. Get involved!
