Before the crash even happened, Oklahoma City dispatchers got a call from the suspect's family warning them to be on the lookout for a driver, high on keyboard cleaner.
Three hours later, police were called to a deadly wrong way head-on crash.
The caller told police 25-year-old Drea Boardingham was driving the now mangled 2012 red Ford Mustang with a tribal personalized license plate.
“It appears that this driver was intoxicated,” Oklahoma City police Sgt. Ashley Peters said.
But, Boardingham told police he wasn't drinking, although they said he was "out of it" on the scene.
As he was being placed in the back of an ambulance because of injuries after the crash, paramedics said he appeared very lethargic and had "slurred, thick speech,” as well as "bloodshot eyes."
The deadly crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Oklahoma City dispatchers started receiving calls about Boardingham traveling southbound but in the northbound lanes of I-44.
Within minutes of the initial calls, Boardingham hit 30-year-old Raymond Dansby head-on in his white Ford pickup, killing him on impact.
“There was another vehicle involved, but there wasn’t any severe injuries. Luckily, they were able to walk away from that incident,” Peters said.
Boardingham was arrested on suspicion of DUI but remains in the hospital recovering from injuries Monday night.
He's also facing two other criminal complaints including first-degree manslaughter.
