Holtzclaw Jury Members Qualify For 'Lengthy Trial' Stipend

The wait for a verdict in the sex crimes trial against former Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw trial has reached day four.

Many are wondering if the jury is close to a decision or hung up on some of the charges. There's really no word on the reason why the jury is taking so much time to make their decision. But they are deliberating 36 separate counts and have five weeks’ worth of testimony to go over.

Now normally jury members receive stipend of $20 a day, plus mileage, plus money for parking for their service. And that is paid out of the court fund. But News 9 has learned that these jury members qualify for the lengthy trial fund, which means after 10 days they can start receiving a payment of up to $200 per day for lost wages based on their income.

If they can prove the lengthy trial has caused a financial hardship, they can qualify for a $50 a day reimbursement for days 4-10 of jury service.

Now, none of the jury members have asked for the lengthy trial fund yet, but they all have all been made aware of it. And they may not submit for it until their service is completed.

So far the jury has served a total of 21 days.
