The jury in the sexual assault trial of former Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw deliberated until 2:30 a.m. before the judge sent them home. They returned late Tuesday morning to continue deliberations.

The jury came back at 10:30 a.m. and quickly resumed deliberations. They had to stay in a motel and rolled back in on Tuesday with their overnight suitcases.

At 5:45 p.m. Monday the case was handed to the jury. It reviewed more than a month’s worth of testimony from 13 alleged victims and DNA evidence.

The group of eight men and four women are deciding whether Daniel Holtzclaw is guilty or not guilty on 36 counts of rape, sexual battery and other charges which carry a possible life in prison sentence.

It was a packed courtroom on Monday. Prosecutors spent two hours presenting closing arguments saying Holtzclaw abused his power as an Oklahoma City police officer and preyed on women who were poor, drug addicts, and the ones he could intimidate and bully into silence.

Holtzclaw's attorneys spent more than two hours telling the jury Holtzclaw was an honest police officer who tried to help drug addicts and prostitutes in his patrol area and that his efforts were distorted.

Judge Henderson issued an order on Monday that cameras will be allowed in the courtroom for that verdict.

After nine hours of deliberating Monday night, jurors still has not reached a verdict as of 6 p.m.

The jury watched Hotlzclaw's videotaped interview again Tuesday morning. That is the interview sex crimes detectives conducted with Holtzclaw when they first brought him in for questioning.

The video is two and a half hours long and the jury asked to watch it again in their deliberations, taking their job very seriously and not rushing the process.

There are a lot of people at the courthouse, waiting for the verdict and ready to watch when that happens. Holtzclaw is facing a maximum of life in prison.

News 9 will announced the verdict as soon as it is announced.

Just talked with lead Asst. DA on the #DanielHoltzclaw trial and he says the jury has asked some questions, but didn't elaborate. @NEWS99
