Twenty-five years is the blink of an eye, trust me, but oh how things have changed since I started at News 9 – News Line 9 25 years ago.
Your anchors back then were Roger Cooper, my longtime friend Jenifer Reynolds, the great Gary England, and my buddy Bill Teegins. We all used typewriters, I don't think there was a computer in the house.
We carried pagers not cell phones, and we couldn't imagine the terrific, terrible, towering times that were ahead of us as reporters and Oklahomans. But you've come through every time. Oklahomans are sturdy, born with a bit of a chip on their shoulder.
Outsiders disregard us to their own peril, right Seattle?
In dark times, the bombing, the tornadoes, the plane crashes, we cry and pray with each other in our triumphs we celebrate briefly then look around and say "what's next?"
I thank you for trusting me through the good times and the bad.
It's pretty unique for someone to anchor at the same TV station for 25 years, but then this is a one of a kind place.
News 9 is a family, it truly is. Amanda's become like a sister, a younger sister to me, and David's the little brother I never really wanted -- nah he's terrific.
And of course Deano's been my pal a long time, and we all enjoy each other.
I look forward to coming into work every day, and I don't take that for granted. And I thank you for being part of the News 9 family!
