Oklahoma State destroyed UTSA 69-14 on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium. Here’s some instant analysis, stick around for the full recap.
What went well
Everything. This was as ugly as any game you’ll see all season. Mason Rudolph did whatever he wanted, the run game was effective, and the defense/special teams forced seven turnovers. You read that correctly. It’ll be hard for coach Mike Gundy to find anything to complain about after this dominant performance.
What didn’t
The Cowboys only forced seven turnovers. Couldn’t even get to double digits. Awful.
Game ball
Chris Carson ran for 105 yards, and while that might not sound overly impressive, here’s why it is: This is only the second time in two seasons that OSU has had a 100-yard rusher in a regular-season game. The other was Tyreek Hill last season in a blowout loss to Kansas State. If OSU wants to make a run at the Big 12 title, it needs someone to step up and run it consistently. Carson took a step forward on Saturday.
What’s next
The real season begins now. OSU heads to Austin to face Texas next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Longhorns host Cal on Saturday night, and depending on the outcome, will enter next week’s game either 1-2 or 2-1.
