You could find a traffic nightmare in Norman as OU begins their football season against Akron. There are construction and road closures throughout the city.
It's quiet right now on I-35 and Lindsey Street -- very different from what we can expect on Saturday. Lots of people plan to tailgate well before that 6 p.m. kickoff. So you can expect I-35 to be a parking lot due to the traffic and the construction projects.
ODOT is in the middle of reconstructing the I-35 interchange at Hwy 9 East and Lindsey St. and widening I-35 to six lanes. So be on the lookout for construction barrels and signs.
There aren't any closed exits on Saturday. The ramps at Lindsey and Hwy 9 are open. But keep in mind the speed limit is down to 55 mph between Main Street and the Canadian River.
If I-35 is too congested ODOT recommends using Flood Ave. or Sooner Rd. south of I-240.
Now here are some streets that are closed: southbound 24th Ave. SW is closed at Hwy 9 East. An alternate around this is use McGee Dr. to Riverside Dr.
Now this is the first big game day since the construction started back in March and is expected to be completed in early 2017. So this is something that drivers should expect throughout this football season.
