A bizarre identity theft scam involves an expensive exotic bird, and a credit card belonging to a member of Pennsylvania’s Attorney General’s Office.
Last September, Village Police say Derrick and Mishia Clark used a bogus credit card to buy an exotic bird, a cage, and supplies from Birds Etc. bird store on 94th and May.
While the card was bogus, police say the number on it was not.
That number is the same number on a credit card belonging to a Deputy Attorney General for the state of Pennsylvania.
A spokesman for that office told News 9, “There have been unauthorized purchases on a number of our cards. We are looking into it.”
Birds Etc. Co-Owner Jackie Clanahan says she and her husband Brad are out more than $1,200. She says she’s sure Derrick and Mishia Clark bought the bird to sell to someone else.
“And just know there will come a day whether it be here on earth or in heaven, that you will answer to some type of justice for what you do to people” Clanahan fumed Friday from their new store in Piedmont. “And all I can say is someday while I am still on earth I see that happen.”
Deputy Village Police Chief Steve Jagosh says Derrick and Mishia Clark live in Purcell, but have ties in Blanchard. They both have extensive criminal histories, and police are looking for them.
