Betty Ballard is 87-years-old, and has been delivering meals in Chickasha for more than 15 years.

“I’m the most blessed old lady you’ll know,” said Betty.

She's one of about 50 volunteers who help deliver up to 100 meals every day. They start at the Grady Memorial Hospital where kitchen workers prepare the food. Then, everyone is assigned a route and they head out.

But for Betty to keep delivering a meal, and a hug, Mobile Meals needs some help.

“We’ve had a price increase that goes in effect August 1,” said Virginia Cox, Volunteer Coordinator for Mobile Meals.

Starting Saturday, August 1, each meal will cost the organization an extra quarter.  While that might not sound like much, when you add it up, it's $400 to $500 more a month.

“About 6 percent of our people are able to pay something toward their meal.  So the rest of it is all donated,” said Cox.

But donations are down.  In the past three months, Mobile Meals has spent $13,000, but only received $6,000 in donations.  And money isn't all they need.

They also need volunteers like Betty. “I get to see these people here that’s glad to see me you know.  A lot of people, they don’t get to see very many people.”

If you want to help, you can send cash donations to Joyce Belville, Treasurer, at 1602 W. Tennessee Ave., Chickasha, OK  73018.  If you want to volunteer, you can call Virginia Cox at (405)222-7871.
