Heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating at the same time, what happened to 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle, a beautiful young lady just walking a San Francisco pier with her father.
An illegal immigrant, Juan Lopez Sanchez with seven felony convictions, deported five times, shot her to death, randomly, right in front of her dad.
He'd been in the custody of San Francisco authorities for drugs. When they dropped the charges, they ignored a request from federal immigration agents who asked that they hold him so they could pick him up and send him back Mexico. Instead, they turned him loose on the city.
In fact, he said he went to San Francisco because he knew they wouldn't turn him over to agents.
San Francisco calls itself a sanctuary city, and so, incredibly, do some 200 others.
Way back in 1989 San Fran passed an ordinance prohibiting city employees from helping federal immigration enforcement.
That's outrageous. We should have cut off their federal money years ago.
Federal law supersedes local law, how screwed up is this?
As Congressman Trey Gowdy said today, San Francisco may have been a "sanctuary city" for Juan Sanchez, but it sure as heck wasn't for Kathryn Steinle.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
