Lankister is the boyfriend of the child's mother and was taking care of the child while the mother was away from the home. Lankister and the mother took the child to the Grady Memorial Emergency room after Lankister said the child had fallen out of his arms.
The child was sent to Oklahoma City via Medi-Flight after it was determined the child had suffered a brain injury, according to police. The child later died from the injuries on Tuesday just before noon at Children's Hospital.
According to medical reports, the injuries sustained by the child were not consistent with the account given to the police by Lankister. Police said the Medical Examiner's office will be performing an autopsy on the child and officers will continue to further investigate the death.
The Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of the death for the child, and reports are being prepared by Chickasha Police Investigations Division. The reports will be turned over to the District Attorney's office for review.
