Peter Toth scored the match's only goal to help OKC Energy FC topple Tulsa Roughnecks FC 1-0 Wednesday night at ONEOK Field. With the win, Energy FC advances to the fourth round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where they will face the MLS's FC Dallas club.
In the 82nd minute of play, Toth sent a line-drive shot from nearly 30 yards out that sailed past diving Tulsa keeper Zac Lubin and into the upper-left corner of the Roughnecks net.
Energy FC managed nine shots on goal for the match, with Lubin denying eight of them. Tulsa had just three shots on goal, with several of their nine other shots blocked by OKC defenders. Cyprian Hedrick and Jacob VanCompernolle made stellar defensive plays to prevent Tulsa from knotting the score late.
Tulsa had eight corner kicks for the match, four coming in the waning minutes of play, but were unable to convert for a tying goal against OKC keeper Evan Newton.
In U.S. Open Cup play, Energy FC will take on FC Dallas in what is anticipated to be an 8 p.m. start on June 16 at Texas Christian University's Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Complex in Ft. Worth.
Energy FC's next match is May 31 at Oklahoma City's Taft Stadium, where the club faces the Austin Aztex in a 7 p.m. start.
