Hours after firing coach Scott Brooks, Thunder GM Sam Presti addressed the media on Wednesday night.
Presti didn't have much new to offer to the statement that he released earlier on Wednesday. But he did want to set the record straight about a few details surrounding the Thunder's coaching search.
Reports are circulating that the Thunder already has candidates in mind and that they have even been in contact with one, UConn coach Kevin Ollie. But Presti denied those reports and claimed that the Thunder is still in the evaluation process.
“We haven't had any contact with anybody,” Presti emphasized. “I understand that in these situations the speculation and the ether of social media, but no.”
If the Thunder brass doesn't actually have any candidates lined up, it could be a little while before someone gets brought on board. Presti gave no estimate.
“We wouldn't put a timetable on anything, Presti said. “We're gonna start to work on that this evening, but I couldn't give you a timeframe.”
The other big question regarding the coaching change revolved around whether the players had any say in the matter. Some reports have indicated that they did, other reports say that they weren't consulted. Presti cleared that up as well, stating that the decision was strictly left to management.
“That would be a terribly unfair position to put players in,” Presti explained. However, he also didn't rule out any player consultations regarding the pending coaching hire, claiming: “I'm certainly not going to lock myself in my office and ignore people.”
