A woman reportedly led an Oklahoma County deputy on a pursuit after refusing to take a citation for a seat belt violation Monday afternoon.
According to the Sheriff's office, at about 5:30 p.m., a deputy saw a woman driving an SUV without wearing a seat belt. The deputy stopped the driver at S.W. 59th and S. Villa.
The deputy spoke with the driver, 19-year old Jenice Lanee Shaw, about why he stopped her. He then wrote Shaw a citation.
However, the deputy said Shaw refused to take the citation, and at some point, grabbed her license out of the deputy's hand. She then drove off at a high rate of speed, nearly running over the deputy's foot with her vehicle, according to the Sheriff's office.
The deputy noticed Shaw run a stop sign and was forced to initiate a pursuit.
Due to traffic conditions the pursuit was called off, but the deputy saw that Shaw had to stop due to traffic congestion. The deputy was able to block Shaw in with his car at S.W. 59th and Miller and placed Shaw into custody.
Shaw was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on complaints of attempting to elude, obstructing an officer, and failure to wear seat belt. She posted her $2,500 bail and was released on Tuesday.
