Midwest City police has issued a warning against scammers who are posing as IRS representatives.

According to police, during the last several days, the department has taken numerous reports concerning identity theft. The victims are getting a telephone call from someone falsely representing themselves as an IRS representative.

Police said the suspect would tell the citizens that there was an error in last year's tax return. They would then ask for a copy of it and this year's W-2s.

Unfortunately, police said the citizen complies and later learns while trying to file this year's return that they were scammed. The victim later learns their identity was stolen and a refund has already been fraudulently issued.

If you have gotten a phone call like this or believe you have been scammed, call Midwest City police.
