Cleveland County Sheriff's Office investigators and the U.S. Marshal's Metro Fugitive Task Force have arrested a fugitive wanted on a sex crimes warrant.
According to the Sheriff's office, John Terry Bayne Jr., 38, was apprehended Thursday afternoon in Oklahoma City. Court records show that Bayne was charged on September 26, 2014, with lewd or indecent proposals to a minor. A warrant was issued for Bayne's arrest that same day.
On Thursday, the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office received a tip via the agency's web site about the warrant. The tipster indicated that Bayne was hiding from authorities.
Deputies confirmed the warrant, and the information was given to a CCSO detective assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Metro Fugitive Task Force.
Within a short amount of time, investigators said they tracked Bayne to Oklahoma City. Bayne was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center about 1:45 p.m. Thursday. He remains in the jail Friday. No bond has been set.
Sheriff Joe Lester said he and his deputies greatly appreciate any information from the public that leads to an arrest or solving a crime. People are always encouraged to send tips via e-mail or phone call.
“Thanks to the tip we received yesterday, investigators were able to find this criminal and take him off the streets,” Lester said. “We consider every bit of information we receive from the public as crucial and this shows that working together with citizens is vital in keeping Cleveland County safe.”
CCSO offers various methods for sharing crime tips. People are encouraged to send information to tips@ccso-ok.us or call the CCSO Tip Line at (405)-701-8870 or Crime Stoppers at (405)-701-8872. Callers may remain anonymous.
