OKCPS Calling On OSSAA After 3A Quarterfinals Game

The Oklahoma City Public School (OKCPS) District administration officials said they are calling on the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Association (OSSAA) to address a controversial call that they say cost the Douglass Trojans a touchdown during the 3A quarterfinal playoffs Friday night. 

School officials said the outcome of the 3A quarterfinals between Douglass and Locust Grove has gained national media attention and prompted legendary former football coaches, elected officials and community members to weigh-in on the issue. 

At Friday night's game late in the fourth quarter, Douglass had a game-winning touchdown wiped away by a sideline infraction penalty. Douglass had to replay fourth down and didn't convert and Locust Grove got the ball to run out the clock. Locust Grove advanced with a 20-19 win over Douglass.

Saturday, the OSSAA acknowledged the penalty was incorrectly enforced. But school officials said the apology was not enough.

So, OKCPS officials sent a formal request to the OSSAA with two suggested options to correct the error on behalf of the Douglass Mid-High School student athletes. 

School officials said they will update the media on their plans and why they believe the OSSAA needs to take action.
