3.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Near Pawnee

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported an earthquake near Pawnee Tuesday afternoon.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported an earthquake in Payne County Tuesday afternoon.

The 3.1 magnitude quake shook the area 10 miles west, southwest of Pawnee and 12 miles north, northeast of Stillwater, according to the USGS.

The earthquake happened at 3:43 p.m. Tuesday and was reportedly more than three miles deep.

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
