Tech-savvy thieves have a new way to steal your keys and break into your home.
It's a new thing. You probably do not think about how often your keys are out of sight while you are at work, the grocery, even the car repair shop. Now you might want to keep a close on them now.
The days of going to a hardware store to get a double of your key are over. A number of online locksmiths now allows people to copy a key with the snap of a camera.
New smartphone apps and websites let your duplicate keys by taking two quick pictures. You then upload them to a cyber locksmith and in a few days the new key arrives in the mail. On some sites it only costs $6.
Founder of KeysDuplicated.com say it requires a credit card and a billing address before it completes orders. And it also does not take orders from people who upload pictures taken from far away and zoomed in.
“Just don't leave your keys lying around. Just like you wouldn't leave your credit card lying around,” said Jordan Meyer, Co-founder of Keys Duplicated.
It's also a good idea to keep your house key when you hand over your keys to a valet, mechanic or anyone else.
While house keys are the focus right now, online duplication of car key is coming soon.
