Suspect In Moore Workplace Beheading Released From Hospital

A man, accused of beheading a woman and stabbing another one at Vaughan Foods in Moore, has been released from the hospital Wednesday morning.

Alton Nolen, 30, was released from OU Medical Center at about 11:30 a.m. He has been booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center.

According to authorities on Thursday, September 25, Nolen, who had been suspended from Vaughan Foods earlier in the day, beheaded 54-year-old Colleen Hufford. While he was stabbing a second victim, 43-year-old Traci Johnson, he was shot by off-duty reserve deputy Mark Vaughan. 

Vaughan is also the COO for the company.

Hufford was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Nolen and Johnson were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

On Tuesday, Nolen was charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. 

During his arraignment, Nolen was escorted by two deputies and stood quietly as the judge read the charges against him. When asked, Nolen said he did not know and did not have a copy of the charges.

The judge then read them off, and Nolen stood motionless and listened. He did not make any sound or facial expressions. After, he said he understood what was read, but still wanted to read them himself.

The judge denied him bond, saying this is a capital offense and that he will be appointing a lawyer to represent him. In a surprise move, Nolen asked the judge to find him a Muslim attorney to represent him. His next court date is Oct. 14.
