A convicted sex offender was arrested again for sexually assaulting a woman in Norman, Wednesday night.
According to an affidavit, just before 11 p.m., a Cleveland County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 300 block of 180th St. in Norman. The car was believed to be involved in a possible rape in progress.
A man and a woman stepped out of the vehicle. The woman told police that the man, later identified as 67-year-old Clarence Davis Johnson, had attempted to rape her.
The victim said Johnson picked her up at her husband's home to take her to her mother's house. While in the car, Johnson reportedly touched the victim inappropriately. He then pulled the car off of the roadway and tried to pull down her pants.
The victim told police that passing vehicle headlights scared Johnson and he stopped. That's when she was able to call her mother, who then contacted police.
Johnson originally denied the allegations, but later admitted to sexually assaulting the woman, according to authorities. He was arrested and charged with one count of sexual battery.
According to the Cleveland County District Attorney's office, in 1991, Johnson was convicted of sex offense against a child and lewd molestation in Cleveland County. In 2001, he was convicted of lewd molestation in Pottawatomie County. And in 2006, he was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender in Cleveland County.
News 9 reported in April, 2011 that during the Cleveland County Sheriff's office's “Operation Spring Clean,” a one day, county-wide sweep on all registered sex offenders, Johnson was arrested for failure to appear in court.
