David Leichty netted his first professional goal as OKC Energy FC defeated Orange County Blues FC 1-0 in front of 3,351 fans Saturday night at Pribil Stadium.
After more than 88 minutes of scoreless play, Leichty gave Energy FC a decisive 1-0 lead when he corralled a failed clearing attempt by the Blues off a corner kick by OKC’s Abraham Villon and sent a shot to the low right corner of the Orange County net that skidded past diving Blues keeper Aaron Perez.
Moments before Leichty’s goal, Energy FC’s Steven Perry had the match’s best scoring chance when he fielded a pass from Nate Shiffman that got behind the Orange County defense for a breakaway opportunity, but his shot was knocked just wide of the Blues net with a sliding save by Orange County’s Perez. Leichty’s goal was the result of the corner kick that ensued Perry’s chance.
OKC keeper Samir Badr earned a second consecutive clean sheet.
Energy FC outshot Orange County 12-6 on the match and held a 4-0 lead in shots on goal. Perry, Jimmy Medranda and Michael Thomas led OKC in shots with two apiece.
With the win, Energy FC improved its record to 8-8-5, while Orange County fell to 8-13-0.
