A new study from UNICEF says immigrant children being housed at places like Fort Sill in Lawton, are as healthy as American kids.
We've heard many people, including politicians, say immigrant kids are carrying dangerous diseases across the border. But this new research debunks that fear.
The study says vaccination rates for immigrant children are comparable to vaccination rates for kids here in the United States. It goes on to say physicians at border stations say a majority of the children coming in the country have "normal childhood illnesses."
The information was obtained by and is now published in Tuesday's Journal Record. It comes from "UNICEF," a global relief organization for children, and a student researcher from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Keith Gaddie, a political science professor at OU, told the Journal Record the argument that immigrants coming into America would bring diseases is "an old one."
