A near drowning Friday afternoon in southern Logan County has authorities once again warning families to be vigilant all 4th of July weekend.
Logan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Rich Stephens says a 2-year-old girl went under the water during a family pool party at 1300 Coltrane around 1:00 p.m.
He says the girl's mother rescued her less than a minute after she went under. A family member performed CPR, and the child was taken to OU Children's Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
EMSA Field Supervisor Colin Roy says having someone around who knows CPR is key, anytime people are in the water.
"CPR really isn't that hard. It's been simplified to the point now just about everybody who has the ability to move has the ability to do CPR," he said.
Roy says while the little girl is expected to recover, she will remain in the hospital for a few days under observation.
