My neighbor Randy always has cool gizmos going on around his house, but tonight when the storm clouds started gathering he outdid himself.

I looked out the window and what did I see? A giant NASA-looking moon bounce in his driveway. I had to know, why Randy? As he often is, Randy is the first on the block to have one of these, the Hail Protector, and my neighbors were fascinated.

Several came over to touch it. Kids bounced off of it. Those driving by did a double take or yelled out the window. ‘That's genius!'  ‘What did you say?'  ‘Genius!'

The Hail Protector is basically two car covers sewn together to make a bag, then inflated with four electric blowers. We threw softballs at it and they just bounced off.

Randy had it plugged in on the porch, but it also plugs into the car's power outlet. And get this, if the hail moves in he doesn't have to move out of his recliner. All he has to do is hit the remote control and it inflates.

Randy's cost about $300. Insurance companies ought to go in half-zies with car owners on these things. I'd love to have one to cover my house. Check out the Hail Protector link on News9.com.
