Senior shortstop Hector Lorenzana represented the University of Oklahoma baseball team in this week's conference awards by being named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week. He shares the award with West Virginia's Billy Fleming.
Lorenzana batted a team-leading .474 (9-for-19) in a 3-2 week for the Sooners. He scored five runs, drove in three and hit three doubles for a .632 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Lorenzana recorded three multi-hit games, including two three-hit games against Kansas State. He went 3-for-5 with two RBI, two doubles and a run in an 11-2 win on Saturday. Over the last nine games, his average has risen from .203 to .275.
This is Lorenzana's second career weekly award from the Big 12 as he was named the conference's Newcomer of the Week on May 13. This is the third award for the Sooners over the last three weeks. Mac James was named the Player of the Week (March 10) and Sheldon Neuse was the Newcomer of the Week (March 17).
For the season, Lorenzana has scored 20 runs and driven in 13. He started the first 75 games of his career at second base before moving to shortstop against Abilene Christian on March 5.
