The Oklahoma State softball team fell to North Texas, 4-3, this evening at Lovelace Stadium in Denton, Texas.
The Cowgirls (15-9) took an early lead in the top of the second inning. Leadoff hitter, Tiffany Mikkelson rocketed a ball down the left field line and rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homerun. Later in the inning, Shianne Hughes scored from second base when Shannon Kaufman hit a ball up the middle to extend the OSU lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, North Texas (17-7) jumped out to a 3-2 lead, aided by a two-run homerun by Kat Strunk.
OSU tied the game up at three in the top of the sixth inning when Gessenia DeLaCruz scored on a wild pitch by starter Ashley Kirk.
North Texas scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jordan Terry scored on a throwing error. UNT would take the game, 4-3.
At the plate, the Cowgirls strung together eight hits. Ari Morrison was 2-for-3, and Mikkelson went 2-for-3 with a homerun and a run batted in. Hughes also went 2-for-3 with a run scored. DeLaCruz had a double and run scored. Kaufman also picked up a base hit for OSU.
In the circle, Freeman (11-4) went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and struck out four.
The Cowgirls return to action this weekend when they host New Mexico and No. 14/16 South Alabama in the Cowgirl Classic, March 14-16 at Cowgirl Stadium.
