ORU Sweeps Doubleheader

Three triples highlighted the Oral Roberts University offensive performance on Saturday as the Golden Eagles swept the second doubleheader from Harvard in as many days at J.L. Johnson Stadium. ORU scored six runs total in the eighth innings to defeat the Crimson 5-3 in game one and 6-5 in the nightcap.

ORU improved its record to 5-6 with the four game weekend sweep, while Harvard fell to 0-4 on the season.

Junior Jose Trevino continued to pick up his offense as he hit a two-run triple off the wall in the first game, and doubled and singled in the second game. Brandon Healy hit safely three times with two doubles in the first game and a single in game two, while Emmanuel Forcier and Logan Domenico each reached base with triples during Sunday's action.

Colin Hightower (2-1) picked up his second victory of the season in relief of starting pitcher Gavin Glanz in the first game. After seven innings of work by Glanz, Hightower pitched the eighth inning, setting up Jordan Romano who entered in the ninth for his second save of the series.

In the second half of the doubleheader, the Golden Eagles used five pitchers, including Hayden Holley, Phillip Wilson, Denny Clement, Jacob Teague and Kyle Stout.

A freshman from Claremore, Okla., Teague (1-0) made his collegiate debut and earned the win as he went 2.1 innings, striking out four and allowing a run. Stout, also a freshman, came in to the close the game with one out in the ninth, striking out two batters for his first save of the season.

Kyle Larrow had a big afternoon for the Crimson with five hits and a run scored in the Saturday doubleheader. Matt Timoney took the loss in the first game, while Zack Olson was the losing pitcher in the second game.

Game 1

The Golden Eagles started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Healy doubled and eventually scored three batters later when Trevino grounded into a double play, giving ORU a 1-0 lead.

However, in the Harvard half of the fifth, Crimson leftfielder Jack Colton doubled down the left field line to drive in Jack McGuiggan to tie the game at one apiece.

In the top of the seventh, Harvard took its first lead of the series. With the bases loaded, Steve Dill reached on a fielder's choice, Carlton Bailey scored on the play, while a misplayed ball also allowed Mike Martin to cross the plate to make the game 3-1.

ORU answered in the bottom of the inning with four runs on four hits to take 5-3 lead. Audie Afenir started the action with a lead off single, coming around to score on a groundout off the bat of Forcier. Healy followed Frocier with his second double of the contest, and after a walk to Brandy, Trevino stepped in with his first big hit of the afternoon with a two-run triple.

Trevino wouldn't stand on third long as Domenico drove him in with a triple over the center fielder's head, giving the Golden Eagles the final 5-3 lead.

Game 2

The nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader was a back and forth game with three lead changes throughout. Both teams scored runs in the first inning when the Crimson took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly Mike Martin to score Colton, and the Golden Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Forcier tripled and Brandy doubled to drive in Forcier.

With Healy standing on first in the bottom of the third, Brandy doubled to right to move Healy over to third, setting up a sacrifice fly by Trevino to plate Healy. Domenico then stepped in with an single back up the middle that allowed Brandy to come around and score from second.

However, the Crimson would score three runs in the next two innings to regain the lead. Three straight singles in the fourth loaded the bases to set up a two-run single by Colton to score Nick Saathoff and Mitch Klug, while Klug drove in Brandon Kregel with a single in the fifth to give Harvard a 4-3 lead.

On Klug's single in the fifth, Austen Colt came up throwing from right field and gunned down Ethan Ferreira at the plate.

Colt then got the job done at the plate with a single of his own to plate Trevino, tying the game at four runs each.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good. Trevino started the inning with a single to center and advanced to second as Domenico reached on an error. Harvard pitcher Zack Olson then committed consecutive balks to score Trevino and give ORU a 5-4 lead.

Domenico then scored the insurance run as Colt hit a slow bouncer between the pitcher and first to extend the ORU lead to 6-4.

Harvard made one more effort in the ninth with an RBI single by Kregel that scored Larrow to make the game 6-5. But with two runners in scoring position, Stout sat two straight batters down on strikes to end the game.

ORU will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they host longtime rival Wichita State at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch between the Golden Eagles and Shockers is schedule for 3 p.m.

Oklahoma vs. Arizona State Rained Out

The Sooners and Sun Devils were scheduled for a 5:00 pm game at Surprise Stadium; the spring training home of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals.

OSU vs. Santa Clara Postponed By Weather

Heavy rains forced the cancellation of Oklahoma State's game against Santa Clara scheduled for today in the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic.
