OK Senate Paves Way For Bill of Rights Monument

The Oklahoma Senate has approved a bill that allows a privately funded Bill of Rights monument to be placed at the state Capitol.

The Senate voted 41-0 Tuesday for the bill and sent it to the House for consideration.

Enid Republican Senator Patrick Anderson said the monument will serve as a "powerful reminder of our guiding values."

Oklahoma already has a privately funded Ten Commandments monument located on the Capitol's north steps, and the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has sued to have it removed.

A satanic group in New York is seeking to have a statue of a seven-foot-tall Satan erected at the Capitol, arguing that the Ten Commandments monument opened the door for its monument.
