A metro community rallies behind a 6-year-old who collapsed at her church after a sudden pediatric stroke.

Kinslee Roe went home Friday. Tuesday night, the Jones High School girls basketball team made Kinslee their honorary team captain.

It's not often you hear about a 6-year-old having a stroke. It's been more than a month now, and Kinslee continues to make miraculous improvements.

"This is what you do to the officials when you go up, you give them a little fist bump, got that," Jones High Girls Basketball Coach said to Kinslee.

Just a month ago, Kinslee could hardly talk, let alone walk, or use the right side of her body.

"We'll let you call the first run, alright," Coach said.

It was January 12th when Kinslee was at church and suddenly collapsed.

"It just turned our world upside down," Kinslee's mother, Heather Roe, said.

Roe said there were no warning signs.

"Before any of this happened, she was a perfectly normal, healthy little six year old playing basketball, arguing with her older brother and sister, loving school, coloring, playing dolls," Roe said.

After leaving OU Children's Hospital, Kinslee spent several weeks at The Children Center in Bethany undergoing physical therapy.

"It is very rare," said Tami McMichael, pediatric nurse practitioner at The Children's Center. "She had a culmination of two things; she had a family history of a genetic disorder that causes you to clot abnormally."

Doctors said she also had underdeveloped arteries in the left side of her brain.

Meanwhile, Kinslee is just ready to get back to normal.

"I play basketball," said Kinslee. "I'm going to play next season."

"She's exceeded my expectations, and she's a miracle to our family," Roe said.

Doctors said it will probably take a year or more for Kinslee to make a full recovery.

If you would like to help Kinslee and her family, donations can be made at any Banc First location for Kinslee Roe.
