Former state Senator Kenneth Corn is the latest to withdraw his name as a potential Democratic candidate for Oklahoma's U.S. Senate seat that is being vacated by Senator Tom Coburn.

Corn said in a statement he decided not to seek public office "at this given time."

The 37-year-old from Poteau says he's particularly concerned the race for the open U.S. Senate seat will be heavily influenced by special interest groups and "power brokers from outside of Oklahoma."

Former Republican Governor Frank Keating also announced Monday he wouldn't seek the post.

Coburn announced earlier this month he was foregoing his final two years in office, resulting in the state's first open U.S. Senate seat since 2004. Republicans are heavily favored to retain it.
