A family was able to escape their home when it caught fire early Friday morning. This happened in Union City on Cherry Avenue near Union City High School.
The fire happened after midnight. The flames just completely took off, calling Union City fire crews to ask for help from Yukon and Minco fire departments.
There were still flames when our photographer Scott Cassady arrived. There were five people inside when the home went up in flames. The homeowner told fire crews he heard an electrical breaker blow. And shortly after that, he started smelling smoke, and everyone got out.
Also, the family's pets made it out safely. But, the house is heavily damaged.
"Well right now, it's kinda a two story house and the upstairs is totally gone. Not sure about the downstairs yet," said Davey Jones with the Union City Fire Department
There's no dollar amount yet for just how much damage the fire caused. Right now, fire crews say they have not pinpointed where the fire started.
