Final preparations were underway at the Myriad Gardens Tuesday afternoon ahead of Opening Night.
With a Thunder and Barons game also taking place, upwards of 75,000 people are expected to be in the area of Opening Night. This year two Oklahomans will make the finale happen, with a slight twist this year.
Robert Muzny is the man behind the show. He hauled hundreds of fireworks up six stories, then meticulously placed each one in a certain spot.
"Each item, each shell has a particular place and time that goes with the music," explained Muzny.
The choreographed fireworks show will light up the sky as in years past, but Muzny said logistics forced a bit of a twist this time.
"This year we're in closer to the people. We've got some smaller product but a lot brighter, a lot more individual items," he explained. "A little more in your face because we are closer to them."
While Muzny set up the final fireworks show, across the street Matt Stansberry & The Romance finished up their sound check.
"I've been coming to opening night on and off since I was in high school," said Matt Stansberry, the lead singer of the band. " Never actually played opening night so really, really excited to be here."
They will be on the main stage, rocking the audience leading up to the fireworks.
"The more people you have in your corner, kind of the harder you play and it's going to be fun," said Stansberry.
For both men, there's nothing like performing for a hometown crowd. Muzny said Opening Night is one of his favorite shows to put on every year.
"New Year's Eve, a packed audience and they enjoy it so you can hear them enjoying it afterwards, this is a fun one," Muzny said.
